Chris Christie has formally endorsed Donald Trump for president, a surprising move within the still-crowded field of GOP candidates. Christie says he considers the former reality TV star "the best person to beat Hillary Clinton," according to CNN. "Generally speaking, I'm not big on endorsements," Trump said during a Texas press conference. "This was an endorsement that really meant a lot."
Of course, as the ongoing marathon of GOP debates briefly displayed before Christie officially removed himself from the competition, Trump and the New Jersey Governor were once one-time rivals vying for the same spot. With Super Tuesday now just days away from making or breaking the election, the endorsement could give Trump a slight—though sadly not needed—boost ahead of some of the most crucial moments of the election season.
Trump added that he's considered Christie a friend "for many years" and is proud to be aligned with a "spectacular" governor. Christie's own history, however, doesn't speak as kindly as Trump. In October of last year, Christie had a brief but widely publicized run-in with karma when he was booted from an Amtrak "quiet car" just moments after blasting President Barack Obama for his support of the Black Lives Matter movement during a TV interview.
On Wednesday, Trump received a very different kind of co-sign: David Duke. Duke, a former KKK Grand Wizard, told listeners of the David Duke Radio Program that any vote against Trump would be seen as "treason" against their "heritage." According to BuzzFeed News' transcript of Duke's proclamation, the infamous white nationalist told his followers that getting actively involved with the Trump campaign would help them meet other people with "the same kind of mindset."
