Donald Trump Suggests Ted Cruz's Father Was Involved in JFK Assassination (UPDATE)

"What was he doing with Lee Harvey Oswald shortly before the death?" Trump asked, planting the seed.

UPDATED 2:06 ET: Ted Cruz has responded to Trump's suggestion in what is obviously the best way possible, playfully admitting that his dad "killed JFK, is secretly Elvis, and has buried Jimmy Hoffa in his backyard." Compelling stuff.

Donald Trump has apparently been binging on the Hulu series 11.22.63 recently, as his most recent attempt at dismantling Texas Sen. Ted Cruz's momentum in Indiana somehow managed to involve both Cruz's father and the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Trump, perhaps referencing a recent National Enquirer piece that alleged Rafael Cruz had been photographed alongside JFK assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, planted quite the conspiracy theory seed ahead of the crucial Indiana primary.

"You know, his father was with Lee Harvey Oswald prior to Oswald's being, you know, shot," Trump said during a phone interview on Fox & Friends on Tuesday. "I mean the whole thing is ridiculous. What is this, right prior to his being shot, and nobody even brings it up! They don't even talk about that." Ensuring that he would at least be the one to "talk about that," Trump pushed the suggestion a bit further: "I mean, what was he doing? What was he doing with Lee Harvey Oswald shortly before the death? Before the shooting?"

Trump's comments arrive right on time for primary voters in Indiana. Though Trump is currently projected to beat both Cruz and his recently acquired BFF Ohio Gov. John Kasich on Tuesday, the Cruz campaign has made valiant efforts in recent weeks to halt Trump's delegate lead. In addition to landing the partnership of former rival Kasich, Cruz also named former presidential candidate Carly Fiorina his vice presidential running mate. As the race continues its path toward the conventions, voters can likely expect to hear plenty more mean things about Cruz from both Democrats and Republicans alike.
