Many people fear the inevitable result of changing technology will be human obsolescence, but one futurologist is saying first we will see the end of men––or at least women's need for them.

Ian Pearson, a futurologist who studies the evolution of technology and humanity and does corporate consulting on the topics, said by 2025 women will have more sex with robots than men. He cited developments in artificial intelligence and virtual reality, as well as enhancement of technology in the sex toy industry, which has been growing by 6 percent every year.

The study, which came out in 2015 but was resurfaced by the Sun on Thursday, also found that by 2030 most people will have virtual sex as often as we browse porn today. He also predicted that by 2050, all human-to-human-sex will be fully replaced by robot sex.

"A lot of people will still have reservations about sex with robots at first but gradually as they get used to them, as the AI (artificial intelligence) and mechanical behavior and their feel improves, and they start to become friends with strong emotional bonds, that squeamishness will gradually evaporate," he said in the report, which was commissioned by adult store Bondara.

He joins a number of futurologists who have predicted that artificial intelligence and technological developments will mean the end of human sex, including robotics software specialist David Levy, who also predicted sex with robots would be commonplace by 2050 and holds an annual "Love and Sex with Robots" conference. Others disagree, saying even the most advanced computer program could not replace human intimacy. The question of if an intelligent robot can consent to sex has been raised, and campaigns against sex robots have even been launched.

The debate will continue, but whether or not they mark the end of human on human loving, it is clear the sex robots are coming.
