Bubba, the dog who made headlines earlier this year for being unwittingly subjected to the pains of heroin and methamphetamine addiction, is clean. The 7-month-old Jack Russell Terrier puppy is officially drug-free and has a new fam to call his own, the Orange County Registerreports.

Bubba's previous owner, Joshua West, was busted on an outstanding warrant and arrested on suspicion of meth, heroin, and drug paraphernalia possession in March. When Orange County Animal Care officials found Bubba, he was taken to the shelter before testing positive for heroin, meth, and nicotine.

Here's what Bubba looks like now:

Bubba's story of triumph is still making the usual viral rounds, though how exactly he tested positive for heroin and meth remains uncertain. After being rescued by OC Animal Care, Bubba was placed in a rehab program and started showing improvements in his condition almost immediately. Just last week, his drug test came back clean for the first time since starting the program. According to the shelter's director, the rest of Bubba's hopefully awesome existence should include approximately zero medical problems.

"It made it more meaningful that they were able to help him out because of his rough start in life," Katie Ingram, OC Animal Care's assistant director, told the Register of Bubba's new owners. "We were happy they are home quite a bit. It's what he deserves." Lt. Brian Frick, who was the first on the scene at the hotel room where Bubba was discovered, even dropped by to give dude a proper sendoff.

Congrats to Bubba. Also, to all humans: please stop being assholes to dogs.
