Microsoft has once again inadvertently positioned itself as the choice computer company for olds with a cringe-inducing attempt at reaching out to the younger demographic.
On Wednesday, the company tried to connect with the kids by sending out an extremely uncool recruitment letter addressed to "BAE INTERN!" They used the letter to try and recruit people for a recruitment event it sponsors called "Internapalooza" on July 11 in the Bay Area. The invite promised "hella noms, lots of drank, and the best beats" as well as beer pong. It also ended with "HELL YES TO GETTING LIT ON A MONDAY NIGHT!" which obviously led to more than a few people posting it social media.

As a company, Microsoft has battled a pervasive uncool reputation for years, with a widely-recognized ad campaign positioning the company as a dorky alternative to a cool Mac dude. Their letter was particularly alarming since "drank" is slang for the recreational use of codeine syrup, which Microsoft is presumably not distributing to interns at its party. The company has since apologized for sending the letter.
"The email was poorly worded and not in keeping with our values as a company," a spokesperson told Gizmodo. "We are looking into how this occurred and will take appropriate steps to address it."
But maybe we are being too hard on Microsoft. Who among us has never said "HELL YES" to "GETTING LIT ON A MONDAY NIGHT"?
