On the night Hillary Clinton officially became the first major party presidential nominee, former President Bill Clinton was the headlining speaker at the Democratic National Convention. After opening with the story of how he first met (and eventually hit on) Hillary, he detailed at length discovering her strongest qualities and passion for social equality while their relationship progressed. "Hillary opened my eyes to a whole new world of public service," Bill said.

Bill continued to list her experience, as well his own public service, while painting a vivid picture of Hillary as a wife and mother. He later said of his wife, "She's insatiably curious, she’s a natural leader, she’s a good organizer, and she’s the best darn changemaker I’ve seen."

Once he got past his two terms as president, Bill outlined a large list of her accomplishments as a senator and Secretary of State, including flying all night from Cambodia to the middle ease to get a ceasefire between Hamas and Isreal and supporting Barack Obama's decision to go after Osama bin Laden. "How do you square the things I told you with the picture the Republicans painted of their opponent in Cleveland?" he asked. "You can't."

Continuing his focus on Hillary as a changemaker, he repeatedly referred to Hillary as a real one. Or, rather, "the real one."

Before taking the stage, Bill congratulated his wife on Twitter for making history.

So proud of you, Hillary. #DemsInPhilly

The 42nd president of the United States has campaigned on his wife's behalf throughout the primary because, duh, you're not going to not use the 42nd president of the United States. In fact, he's appeared at 400 events in 40 states just since January, according toNBC News. "His value is in being able to tell the American people about his wife," Clinton campaign communications director Jennifer Palmieri, told the network. "She's famous but we still feel like there's a lot about her that's not well known."

Reaction to the speech on Twitter was extremely positive, with political types, celebrities, and more weighing in on the historic occasion.

However, some who viewed the speech refused to let it paper over their disagreements with the Clintons.
