Speaking to a crowd in Ohio Monday afternoon ahead of GOP nominee Donald Trump's speech on foreign policy, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani appeared to forget that the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 ever happened. Giuliani, speaking on the two-term presidency of fellow Republican George W. Bush, asserted that the nation saw no "successful radical Islamic terrorist attack" during those 8 years.
Despite Giuliani's claims during Monday's speech, a quick Googling confirms that Bush was indeed in the White House on Sept. 11, 2001 and that the tragic attacks on that date were carried out by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda. Giuliani's remarks thus hit Twitter with the quickness, prompting exactly the response one would expect: confusion, anger, and a reliable dedication to getting some jokes off.
Giuliani last angered the general public during his appearance at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland. The vocal Trump supporter called for racial unity, a direct contrast to his previous rhetoric in which he has, among other things, called activist groups such as Black Lives Matter "racist" and used the police killing of Michael Brown in 2014 as an opportunity to harp about literally anything else but police brutality.
Speaking of George W. Bush, dude is reportedly worried he'll be the last Republican president in U.S. history. "I'm worried that I will be the last Republican president," Bush reportedly told a group of "former aides and advisers" in April, according toPolitico.
