Donald Trump's current campaign manager is now facing a controversy of her own after comments made during a PBS panel discussion in 2013 have resurfaced. The comments, in which Kellyanne Conway asserts that "rape would not exist" if women were stronger, were unearthed this week and covered by a variety of media outlets.

The discussion centered on women's role in military combat, something to which Conway appears to reject outright. When panel experts said that anyone who passes the required physical should be able to serve, Conway brought rape into the discussion. As noted by Raw Story, Conway's mention of rape was seemingly unprompted.

"If you're suggesting that physical fitness experts say it's different, I'll accept that," Conway told the panel. "Except to say that we should not have the girl's version and the boy's version of that physical fitness test." Then Conway made the following assessment:

"If we were physiologically—not mentally, emotionally, professionally—equal to men, if we were physiologically as strong as men, rape would not exist. You would be able to defend yourself and fight him off."

According toCNN, the remarks were brought back into the mainstream conversation by the Democratic Coalition Against Trump PAC. In a statement, the group quoted Daily Show co-creator and Lady Parts Justice founder Lizz Winstead. "They seem to think it's acceptable to blame rape victims for their assaults, deny women the right to control their own health care, and downplay sexual harassment in the workplace," Winstead said. "It's not."

Conway is Trump's third campaign manager, following the exits of Corey Lewandowski in June and Paul Manafort earlier this month. Last week, Conway made an unlikely appearance on Rachel Maddow's MSNBC show in which the two passionately discussed the campaign's "content-free cacophony" and Trump's offensive remarks to the Khan family and others:
