David Bossie, Donald Trump's newly minted deputy campaign manager (and president of the conservative advocacy group Citizens United), has dedicated much of his career in politics working to take down Hillary and Bill Clinton and once wrote a book arguing that Bill Clinton was responsible for 9/11. The Daily Beast reported that in a book he penned in 2004, Bossie wrote Clinton is responsible for 9/11 and that Clinton let the attacks occur because he wanted to promote a pro-gay and anti-military agenda.

The book, Intelligence Failure: How Clinton’s National Security Policy Set the Stage for 9/11, is out of print (though you can buy a used hardcover for just a penny on Amazon), but The Daily Beast reported it was published by WorldNetDaily Books, the print publishing arm of a far-right conspiracy website. (WND.com's leading headline on their homepage at the time of this writing was "Feds Running 'Illegal' Experiments on Humans," and features a column written by Ann Coulter.)

In his book, Bossie argued Clinton did not take terrorism seriously during his presidency, wasn't hard enough on enemies of the US, and weakened the FBI and CIA by making them too "politically correct"—specifically in regards to a pro-gay agenda. Bossie argued that, because members of the CIA didn't like being trained on AIDS sensitivity, talented members left the agency, leaving the CIA without adequate personnel that could fight terror.

"Historically, there had been serious security-clearance issues and concerns about homosexuals in the intelligence community, concerns based on legitimate rationales," Bossie wrote. "Unfortunately, in the Clinton administration, we didn’t see any serious study of the issue. Rather, Clinton’s ideology, and his need to pay back the homosexual community, forced the CIA to change, regardless of the effect on national security. Where will this end? It is hard to say."

The argument that Clinton had a pro-gay agenda to such an extent that he would compromise national security is a strange one, given that Clinton signed a law in 1996 that affirmed marriage as a legal contract between a man and a woman. Clinton didn't endorse gay marriage until 2013, 12 years after 9/11.

Bossie also contended that Clinton had a hatred for the military, as demonstrated by his supposed adamant gay agenda: "That Clinton continued to loathe the military was revealed as soon as he took office and attempted to overhaul military policies, such as allowing homosexuals to serve with the new 'don’t ask, don’t tell' policy and forcing our soldiers to wear the UN insignia instead of a U.S. flag on their uniforms."

All of this was to assert that George W. Bush couldn't have possibly prevented 9/11, specifically because of Clinton's anti-intelligence, military-hating, pro-gay approach to national security.

Well, you know what they say: One man's craven, maniacal sleaze is another man's deputy campaign manager. Trump is set to focus his campaign messaging on national security in the coming days.
