A female high school student in West Texas shot and injured another girl before taking her own life. Around 9 a.m. this morning in Alpine, Texas, the Brewster County Sheriff's Office was called to Alpine High School after an active shooter was reported on campus. The campus and surrounding areas were put on lockdown, according to mySA.com.

Upon arriving, police found a girl with a gunshot wound and a gun and originally assumed she was a victim. There were early reports of two shooters on the loose, but police later concluded that the girl was the shooter and died from a self-inflicted wound.

Before turning the gun on herself, the shooter walked into the band hall bathroom with her semi-automatic pistol and "plenty of ammunition" and shot another female student in the lower backside, according to CBS 7. The student was able to run out of the school, and bystanders took her to the hospital for treatment. The sheriff says the victim "will be fine."

The grandfather of the alleged shooter told the sheriff, "We don't know what would provoke this." The shooter was a new student at the school, and her family had only recently moved to the area.

There are some reports of an injured Homeland Security Investigations officer, who was also taken to the hospital after being accidentally shot by a U.S. Marshal on the scene.
