Steven Avery From 'Making a Murderer' Just Got Engaged to a Woman He's Only Met Once

Steven Avery of Netflix docuseries 'Making a Murderer' is engaged to a woman he's met only once.

Steven Avery, convicted (and possibly framed) murderer and the primary subject of Netflix's docuseries, Making a Murderer, is engaged to a woman he has met only once, according to the New York Daily News. Avery is now engaged to 53-year-old Lynn Hartman, a legal secretary from Las Vegas.

The Daily News reports that Avery and Hartman had been speaking to each other on the phone for several months before meeting in person in September and promptly becoming engaged. The couple plans to tie the knot when Avery is released from the Waupun Correctional Institution, where he's serving a life sentence for the murder of Teresa Halbach in 2005.

News of the engagement has prompted some puzzlement and disbelief on social media:

If there isnt a Bravo show called "Dating A Murderer" with Steven Avery as the bachelor within 6 months, television has failed us all

Just read Steven Avery is engaged again. Thought this was his GF but apparently they split because Steve's not a Christian #MakingAMurderer pic.twitter.com/gsouv9cliu

According to the Facebook page for the Steven Avery Project, some eyebrows have been raised over the engagement, with concern that Hartman has ulterior intentions for becoming engaged to Avery. But according to a Facebook post addressing the concerns, the love is for real:

The post states that Steven wanted everyone to know that he and his betrothed are "are very much in love and this isn't going to change anytime soon." Avery further told the Daily News that Hartman is "going to be my future wife, we’ll be laughing forever."
