Despite the veneer of friendship between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders that emerged after Sanders officially endorsed Clinton for president, things between the two candidates may not be as rosy as they seem. In one of the many emails between members of the Clinton campaign that were obtained by Wikileaks, it was revealed that Sanders’ wife, Jane Sanders, urged Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin to abstain from endorsing Clinton for the Democratic nomination.

In an email to Clinton and her campaign staffers John Podesta and Huma Abedin, campaign manager Robby Mook revealed that Shumlin’s endorsement was a “bold move” after Jane Sanders “called him twice and begged him to change his mind.” Mook also writes that Shumlin “stood firm” despite Sanders’ pleas.

On Thursday, Mrs. Sanders shrugged the email off in a single tweet. "1st, I don't beg," she wrote. "Knew Gov. Shumlin endorsement of HRC worthless, told him his timing as @BernieSanders announced was pathetic crass politics."

Since endorsing Clinton on July 12, Sanders has been one of her most ardent supporters. Clinton meanwhile, has done her best to get Sanders’ supporters on her side, by promising things like her plan to provide free public college to children of families who earn less than $125,000 a year. In the end, whether Clinton has the support of Sanders’ followers may not matter, since by all intents and purposes, this election is all but over
