A Deputy from Lincoln County, North Carolina has been fired after accidentally shooting her 11-year-old daughter at a Halloween party over the weekend. Local CBS affiliate WNCN reports that 38-year-old deputy Misty Michelle Flowers took her service weapon out at a Halloween party when the weapon went off, firing through the wall and striking her young daughter who was on the other side.

According to a statement posted to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department Facebook page Monday, "Responding deputies rushed the young girl to CHS-Lincoln. She was then airlifted to CHS-Main in Charlotte where she underwent surgery. The child is listed in stable condition."

Regarding Flowers' termination, Sheriff David Carpenter said in the statement, "I find gross negligence and the disregard for the safety of others was displayed in the incident Saturday night and therefore Officer Flowers was terminated today."

Deputies who arrived to the scene at Flowers' home rushed her daughter to a local hospital, where she was then airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, according to the statement. Flowers' daughter had surgery in Charlotte, and was listed in stable condition as of Monday.

Sheriff Carpenter also said, "During this entire situation my focus has been on the well-being and condition of the child involved and am of the understanding the child is going to be ok after the surgery. This is a very tragic situation for all involved, the officer, her family, her career and everyone that has been touched by this. We continue to pray for healing of the child and the entire family as the investigation continues over the next several days."

The investigation into the shooting was still ongoing as of Monday, according to the statement.
