UPDATE 11/16/16

The gunman in Tuesday’s Oklahoma City Will Rogers World Airport shooting has been identified as 45-year-old Lloyd Dean Buie, a former Southwest Airlines employee, police said in a news release. Oklahoma City police Capt. Paco Balderrama said Buie used a rifle to shoot Michael Winchester from about 50 yards outside of the fourth floor of the public parking garage. According to CNN, Southwest said Buie resigned in April 2015 after working with the company since November 1999. Buie was a ramp agent who resigned after he was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and refused to take a blood alcohol content test when asked. Winchester, a Southwest employee for 29 years, was not Buie’s supervisor.

"We know his intentions were to go to the airport and hurt someone. We don't know if (Winchester) was his intended target or if he meant to hurt (more people)," Balderrama said.

A fatal shooting Tuesday at Oklahoma City’s Will Rogers World Airport left two dead including the gunman, Oklahoma City Police said in a press conference. The victim in the shooting has been identified as 52-year-old Michael Winchester, father of Kansas City Chiefs long snapper James Winchester.

Police said the suspect in the shooting was found dead in a red pickup truck on the second floor of a public parking garage overlooking where the incident took place. He appeared to have died from a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Because of the suspect’s injuries, he has not been identified—authorities have only revealed that he was a white male. Police said they found the suspect’s truck three hours after the 1 p.m. shooting and were able to tell there was someone in the car. After 75 minutes, with the help of a robot, they determined the suspect was dead.

Winchester, a Southwest Airlines employee, was shot while he was walking between a terminal and the airport’s employee parking area. "This individual went there and waited for the employee to either be coming or going to take this opportunity," Oklahoma City Police Capt. Paco Balderrama said.

Winchester is said to have died after being taken to the hospital. "It is with great sorrow that Southwest Airlines confirms that a Southwest Employee who was injured during a shooting incident today at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City has died from injuries," Southwest said in a statement. As of around 6:30 p.m., airport spokeswoman Karen Carney said the airport had resumed operations.
