Sometimes the thought of hitting pause on reality is too appealing to ignore. Maybe that's the inspiration behind the latest trendy thing your parents will ask you about months after it peaks: the #MannequinChallenge. As the name implies, this challenge consists of a large, flash mob-esque group of people who orchestrate a coordinated freeze while someone documents their paused poses with a phone.

The first entry in the growing #MannequinChallenge canon, according toMashable, was presented without explanation back in October:

But according to 2 Chainz, its origins are a bit more complicated:

The challenge has garnered a ton of new fans (including Rae Sremmurd) in the months since that first clip, with each entry seemingly upping the production value and complicating the style of each participant's pose:

The Pittsburgh Steelers even hopped in on the trend Friday with their own take on the #MannequinChallenge, complete with a well-timed fourth-wall break:

If you're into mannequin-ing it up with your friends, you might want to hop on this as soon as possible before the lames catch wind of it.
