Today, President-elect Donald Trump beefed on Twitter with former President Bill Clinton, the husband of Trump's former election opponent, over a phone call. The petty beef between a former president and a future president might be the greatest summary of 2016 we've seen so far.

Just recently, Bill Clinton told reporters that the president-elect did call him after winning the election. But he had some harsh words for Trump too, saying he "doesn't know much, [but] one thing he does know is how to get angry, white men to vote for him."

As you might expect, Trump got his feelings hurt and went to Twitter to let it out:

A few hours later, Bill Clinton clapped back on Twitter:

Because Clinton told reporters just recently that Trump called him after the election—not the other way around—Clinton's response on Twitter could suggest that the two have spoken on multiple occasions, with Clinton calling Trump at least once after the election.

Even before Clinton replied, others on Twitter called Trump out for his attacks on the former president:

Of course, it's far from the first time Trump has insulted Clinton on Twitter:

However, in the past, Trump has tweeted praise of Bill Clinton, both as a friend and a politician:

Trump has even retweeted a picture of himself golfing with the former president:

Let's just hope Twitter fingers don't turn to trigger fingers.
