An Indiana woman faces charges for allegedly beating two children after the children found and unwrapped Christmas gifts, reported Indiana’s Greenfield Reporter, which obtained court documents.  The woman allegedly hit the two children, including one with a mental disability, in the face with a belt and threw them against walls.

The woman, 36-year-old Sascha D. Collins from Greenfield, faces two level five felony counts of battery: “battery with bodily injury to a person under the age of 14” and “battery on a disabled person.” Collins pled not guilty in Hancock Superior Court 1 Tuesday.

Court documents state the boys told police upon seeing the unwrapped presents in a room in Collins’ home, she hit them with a belt and threw them into a wall. Investigators reported red marks on the kids' bodies.

According to the boys’ teen sister, Collins got home from shopping late Saturday and drank, but didn’t go to sleep until 5 a.m. Sunday because she snorted half a hydrocodone pill. The teen told police Collins was asleep when she left Collins’ home at 10 a.m. Sunday for 45 minutes. When the teen returned, she found the children screaming in pain.

Collins told police on Sunday she “just lost it” when she saw what the children had done to the house. Collins also said she couldn’t remember exactly what happened, but did say she “went overboard” spanking them. She even thought she hit the boys with a plastic spoon and not a belt. However, Collins said she didn’t throw the boys into a wall and blamed the marks on the boys' bodies on them fighting with each other.

Collins could face up to 12 years in prison.
