Man’s Special Package in His Shorts Was $78,000 Worth of Cocaine

Rowald Thomas Tromp was caught smuggling $78,000 worth of cocaine in spandex shorts.

Authorities said Tuesday they nabbed a man at a New Jersey airport who stuffed his spandex shorts...with $78,000 worth of cocaine. This great plan was almost as ingenious as the one thought of by the desperate man forced to smuggle cocaine in his foreskin this past summer.

U. S. Customs and Border Protection said they caught Rowald Thomas Tromp, a passenger arriving at Newark Liberty International Airport from Oranjestad, Aruba, on Dec. 14. Tromp, a citizen of the Netherlands, was being examined by CBP when officers found the pair of spandex shorts in his backpack.

The “extra packages in his shorts,” as the CBP humorously put it, were two packages that “produced a white powder” which when tested was proven to be cocaine. The packages totaled five pounds in weight and were estimated to be $78,000 worth of cocaine.

Robert E. Perez, Director of Field Operations for New York, said of the discovery: “This latest seizure demonstrates the steadfastness of the CBP officers on the ground to detect and deter those who would try to import these illegal substances. CBP is ever vigilant in our daily battle against the flow of illicit narcotics being smuggled into the United States.”

After CBP put Tromp under arrest, he was given over to Port Authority Police Department for prosecution.

Citing police, NJ.com reported that Tromp has been charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession with intent to distribute.
