A 67-year-old man reportedly died Sunday after successfully capturing a rare Pokémon. Liang Weiming collapsed and suffered a fatal heart attack just "moments" after catching Lapras during a round of Pokémon Go near the Marina Bay Sands hotel in Singapore, the New York Post reported. The man's wife, Chen Ma Li, told local reporters that her husband had previously hunted Pokémon at the same location on multiple occasions.
"There was a sudden call from the hospital after 6 p.m.," she said, according to an initial report from Asia One. "They (the medical staff) told us to come see him one last time. At that moment, I knew things were bad." Her husband, she added, had a history of cardiac issues. Shortly before the tragic heart attack, Liang Weiming and Chen Ma Li dined together as part of a family member's birthday celebration.
A statement from the Singapore Civil Defence Force said a man had been transported to the Singapore General Hospital at 5:30 p.m. local time on Feb. 26. He was later pronounced dead. A cellphone review, the Postnoted, confirmed the level 28 player's capture of both Lapras and Granbull.
Pokémon Go has remained in headlines since its release in July 2016. In a lighter instance of Pokémon Go news, for example, the Prime Minister of Norway was busted back in October for seemingly partaking in a round of Pokémon hunting at the Storting.
