Sound Check: Ja Rule Sentenced To Two Years In Prison For Gun Charge

News you should know from the world of music.

Ja Rule sentenced to two years in prison: Perhaps in an attempt to cash in on the jail-time career bump that Lil Wayne experienced, Ja Rule has been sentenced to two years in prison stemming from a 2007 arrest on gun charges. Coincidentally, Ja was arrested after the same concert at which Wayne was arrested. While the rapper initially plead not guilty, he changed his mind to save himself from a potential four-year prison term. We'll care as much about Ja after his release as we have for the last few years: not at all. [LINK]

Lauryn Hill maps out tour dates: It's been some 12 years since Lauryn Hill released The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill Waiting for another album might take just as long, but at least L-Boogie just announced eight tour dates from the end of this month and into March 2011. [LINK]

Beck remixes Lykke Li's "Get Some": It's good to be Lykke Li. On top of being Swedish (low infant mortality rates for the win!) and being a talented singer, Li's latest single, "Get Some," from her upcoming Wounded Rhymes LP has gotten loads of attention and the remix nod by none other than Mike D of the Beastie Boys. Now Beck has thrown in his support of the track with his own remix. We're fairly certain the only thing that could make Sweden happier was a slightly higher GDP. [LINK]

The new Death Cab for Cutie record is called Codes And Keys: What does one call a semi-experimental record where an indie pop band like Death Cab for Cutie play with the sounds of the guitar? How about the Codes And Keys. Hell, they can call it Our Frontman Shares A Bed With Zooey Deschanel as long as they put it out ASAP. [LINK]

Eminem and Lil Wayne play SNL next week: We might be stuck with the same bad jokes, but SNL has stepped up their game musically in recent months. Up next: Lil Wayne and Eminem perform their collabo "No Love" on the December 18 episode, with Jeff Bridges hosting. Weezy in a Tron: Legacy skit would make our hearts sing. [LINK]
