In an effort to fully distinguish his new venture into funk music, Snoop Dogg has (once again) changed his stage name and shall henceforth be known as Snoopzilla.

His rebranding comes with a new studio partner too, where Snoop will be collborationg with Dam-Funk as the duo 7 Days of Funk. Their self-titled debut project will be released December 10 on Stones Throw Records. "We're the babies of the Mothership," Snoop tells Rolling Stone of his new musical style. "I've had funk influences in my music my whole career. Dam-Funk is cold. He's keeping the funk alive and I knew I had to get down with him."

Snoopzilla is likely a play off of Damian Marley's nickname, Gong Zilla. That or "Bootzilla," Bootsy Collins' 1978 hit single. If you're scoring at home, that's Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr. -> Snoop Doggy Dogg -> Snoop Dogg -> Snoop Lion -> Snoopzilla. You can listen to Snoop and Dam-Funk's first record together, "Faden Away," below:
