It’s true: one continent just couldn’t contain the madness. This weekend, for the first time ever, the Mad Decent Block Party left North America – and where better to get shit turnt up than sunny South Africa? The touring triple threat of Major Lazer, Flosstradamus, and Dillon Francis were joined on Saturday in Johannesburg by Paul Devro and local South African electro acts liver, Das Kapital, Sibot & Toyota (you may recall Sibot’s Magnet Jam EP released on Mad Decent’s Jeffree’s imprint a little over a year ago) and Niskerone, while White Nite, Ruffest, Paul Devro, Das Kapital and Sibot & Toyota got Cape Town playing, partying and PLURNT with the Mad Decent dudes on Sunday.

Picture water pistols, inflatable pool toys, twerking dancers, even more committed twerkers from the crowd, and Diplo walking across the crowd in a human hamster ball – oh yeah, not to mention bass that made you feel as if both your organs and synapses were being arranged – and you kinda get the idea. It’s not Diplo’s first visit to SA, either – he was the electro headliner at Oppikoppi music festival in 2012 – and with events like the Cape Town Electronic Music Festival, which brought the likes of Noisia and Dixon to the city this past weekend too, it’s clear that the country’s electronic music scene is stronger than ever and still gathering force.

Think South Africa had enough dance music pressure? Think again: Ultra South Africa hits Cape Town and Johannesburg this weekend!
