In addition to bringing UK Garage to New York with a DJ EZ set a few weeks ago, MoMA PS1's 2014 Warm Up series provided an unprecedented, last-minute grime set by Skepta and Jammer last Saturday.
While the two weren't originally on the bill (which included Total Freedom, Goldlink, UNiiQU3, and Cashmere Cat), they showed up with J-Cush, who DJed a mix of new and classic grime instrumentals (including Dizzee Rascal's "I Luv U" - below) for them. Skepta and Blood Orange started by performing "High Street" off of Cupid Deluxe before Skepta and Jammer rapped recent JME-featuring hit "That's Not Me."
Given that Skepta's first US show was only last March, this was a big moment and an awesome surprise for Warm Up attendees. The next day, Skepta and Jammer performed on Boiler Room with J-Cush, as well. Is grime's US takeover imminent? We can only hope.
