Genre-defying duo the Foreign Exchange is all about breaking boundaries, from an original sound (a mixture of hip-hop, R&B, and dance music), to the form of collaboration. The Foreign Exchange is comprised of American vocalist Phonte Coleman and Dutch producer Nicolay, and together, from miles away, the duo creates album after album. In fact, the pair created its first songs without ever meeting in person.

This may not seem as shocking now in today's highly connected media landscape, but when the group was founded in the early 2000s, this was cutting edge. Now veterans at virtual collaboration, the Foreign Exchange serves as a model for other musicians and artists who want to create without the confines of geography. Watch the video to learn more about the group's journey.
