There's a school of thought that could easily attach the entirety of the "hard electro-as-EDM" movement to Korean-American producers the Far East Movement's 2010 collaboration with DEV and The Cataracs for "Fly Like a G6." The proper mix of "bro" meets beats, it was a cross-cultural pop smash that opened doors. Now, four years and a consistent slew of dance-friendly releases later, the production unit prepare to release their K-Town Riot mini album on October 28. "Level (Palm Trees)", the latest single from the project, is bright, spacious, less-than-bass heavy and atmospheric electro featuring production duo La'Reda. Named for the popular and globally-relevant area of Los Angeles which they inhabit, the project will be released via Cherrytree Records. Single "Bang It To The Curb" enlists the aid of Dutch house pioneer Sidney Samson, and has already seen release, while "Murder Was The Bass"-collaborator Rell the Soundbender has another track with the OG electro names with "Grimey Thirsty." With top left-coast rappers ScHoolboy Q and YG involved (among other guests), this EP showcases that in the case of the Far East Movement, they're still as relevant as they are successful.
