Ariana Grande and Jessie J Aren't Going to Remake Brandy and Monica's "The Boy Is Mine"

"The Boy Is Mine" producer Rodney "Darkchild" Jenkins teased the potential collab earlier this month, but it's a no-go.

We promised we'd reserve "final judgement" on this idea until the song's release, but it looks like that's not going to happen. (The disappointment being felt by snarky music writers all over America is palpable.)

Two weeks ago, producer Rodney "Darkchild" Jenkins announced that he had tipped Ariana Grande and Jessieas his first-choice duet to remake Brandy and Monica's classic '90s R&B duet, "The Boy Is Mine." Jenkins, who produced and co-write "The Boy Is Mine," is preparing to record a 20th-anniversary project for his music. For that album, Jenkins is seeking to rework, cover, and re-imagine his existing classics like "The Boy Is Mine."

Grande and Jessie J have only just exploded onto the pop music scene through their collaboration "Bang Bang," leaving some skeptical of Jenkins' choice for covering two R&B greats like Brandy and Monica. Nevertheless, there's no longer any point in fretting over the potential collaboration—it's a no-go as of right now.

At last night's American Music Awards, Jessie J squashed Jenkins' teasing announcement. "Neither of us have agreed. Sadly people are believing it. I spoke to Brandy and I was like, 'No, it's not happening,'" says Jessie. Credit to the pair for realizing that some tracks are just too damn perfect to even think about re-doing.
