Kind of crazy to think that it's been 20 years since Warren G stepped onto the scene with Nate Dogg with "Regulate" and his debut album, Regulate... G Funk Era. The album was super popular, and helped further the G Funk sound of the West Coast hip-hop scene. Def Jam/Universal is re-releasing the full album on CD and vinyl, and decided to get three new remixes of "Regulate" into the public. Photek and Jauz mounted up for their takes, as did Destructo and Wax Motif, who are key figures behind the growing g-house sound in EDM. For this new take, Destructo and Wax Motif keep it smooth, working a funky groove underneath Warren, Nate, and that Michael McDonald sample. It's a dope new spin that'll keep this cool enough to draw for crowds who want that nostalgia, and a great look back at one of the bigger singles during an era where the hip-hop scene on a whole was changing.
