John Legend Doesn't Think Selma Was Snubbed As Badly As Everyone Else Does

Complex caught up with Legend at the AXE White Launch in NYC on Tuesday.

None

When the 2015 Academy Award nominations were revealed last week, it took mere minutes for #OscarsSoWhite to trend on Twitter, and people were pretty disappointed that the film Selma was snubbed in every category besides Best Picture and Best Original Song. But the Oscars are trash and you probably already knew that.

However, John Legend received his first Oscar nom for Best Original Song with his track, "Glory," featuring Common. The Selma track recently won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song, as well. Tonight, Complex caught up with Legend at the AXE White Label launch in NYC and asked about whether or not he felt that the film was snubbed.

"Well first of all, it is nominated for Best Picture which, obviously, if they're able to win, will be the biggest prize of the night, so in that sense, it wasn't snubbed," Legend told Complex. "But I do feel that David [Oyelowo] and Ava [DuVernay] did Oscar-worthy work. I haven't seen all of the films that were nominated above them but I do know that Selma truly is brilliant work, powerful, powerful film making, and David did a masterful performance. I feel that they did Oscar-worthy work. But the Academy decided what it decided, so it is what it is at this point. "
