Last night the Guvernment nightclub in Toronto closed its doors for good. Renowned Toronto-based EDM superstar Deadmau5 headlined the goodbye bash at the legendary club.

After almost two decades hosting the city's biggest electronic dance parties and concerts, Canada’s largest nightclub has become a victim of Toronto’s never-ending condo boom. The 22,000-square-foot venue has hosted big names like Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, David Bowie, INXS, Prince and the Rolling Stones throughout the last 18 years, but the club was best known internationally for hosting huge electronic dance parties. Tiesto, David Guetta, Dutch trance DJ Armin van Buuren and many more have spun records at the club until all hours of the morning.

Of course, Sunday night’s final blowout featured a little homegrown talent. Toronto-based Deadmau5, who got his start in one of the venue’s smaller rooms before going on to headline festivals around the world, closed the venue.

The property's owner Charles Khabouth made headlines after he tried to hold onto the venue, but was eventually outbid by condo developers. Khabouth recently bought Sound Academy, another large club on Toronto’s waterfront. He plans to host "Guvernment nights" there.
