Last summer, Fool's Gold linked up with BitTorrent for a special bundle chock full of their 2014 Draft Picks. In it was material from a number of producers who, based on this co-sign, should be in your "next up" category, including Brenmar (who is releasing his Award EP next week via the house that A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs built), Salva, DJ Hoodboi, and others. One of the more surprising picks was Shash'U, a Montreal-based producer who's been killing it on the remix tip for a minute, dropping sick flips of tracks from Bobby ShmurdaDanny BrownA-TrakFlosstradamus, and many more. He's been calling his sound "PWRFNK," and that moniker perfectly describes his new, FREE EP on Fool's Gold, Thru Da Night.

This five-tracker should be a great introduction to Shash'U's material, with the excellent title track throwing some soulful vocals from Mimo LaFunk over a fuzzy, victorious beat. Cuts like "LOL XOX" are playful love letters to baes gone by, while "Don't Fight It" (the EP's opener) feels like a b-side from some mysteriously futuristic funk band from the '80s. "One More Ride" walks a funky line that mirrors the material Lido cooked up in 2014, but with more oomph and way less bright. The closer, "Skyline," is cinematic excellence wrapped up in 808 percussion. All-in-all, this freebie is a solid sampler of what Shash'U has in store, which is his PWRFNK album, due out on March 31.
