Last week, before all the pomp and circumstance of the 57th Annual Grammy Awards took place on Sunday, Complex shared a video that focused specifically on the rap categories and the lack of respect the Grammys have shown to artists in hip-hop, historically. One very revealing fact: Seattle rapper Macklemore has more Grammys to his name than Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, The Notorious B.I.G., 2Pac, and many other influential rappers. It looks like West Coast legend Snoop Dogg happened to come across our video, as he posted a screenshot of the image used in the clip with the caption, "Fuck the Grammys we need a hip hop show for real niggaz n real mcs." For those counting at home, Snoop Dogg has been nominated 16 times for a Grammy over the years but he has yet to win. Snoop once joked he was the Susan Lucci of the Grammys—Lucci has been nominated 21 times for an Emmy, but has only won once.
This year's rap category winners—Kendrick Lamar and Eminem—feel more in line with what's going on in hip-hop than in years past. And there's one thing Snoop has to be happy about: Iggy Azalea went home with none.
