Out of My Head: Five Songs I Listened to This Weekend

Jeremih: never on schedule, always on time.

None

In our ongoing quest to locate the mythical Jeremih album, we're momentarily getting by on the nuggets of buzz that Jeremih drops twice every five weeks, most recently his "Like Me" collaboration with Lil Durk and his own latest album single, "Planes," which now comes with a superior remix.

Jeremih: He's never on schedule but always on time.

Baauer f/ Fetty Wap and Dubbel Dutch "Promises"

Released: March 31, 2015

There's much fanfare here: flute toots and marching trombones, all to celebrate the possibility that "Trap Queen" rappa-turnt-sanga Fetty Wap may indeed be here to stay! If only because he can hit all the notes that Drake can't quite reach! Isn't this how Beyoncé vanquished Kelly Rowland? #comparativeadvantage

Holt f/ King L "Knight Call (Remix)"

Released: April 7, 2015

King L slips into Holt's dim remix of Kavinsky's "Nightcall," a cut from the brooding, indie-minded heist film Drive, which should've starred King L instead of Ryan Gosling in the first place. As consolation casting, here's King L's "eulogy for the foolery," as L puts it himself.

Jadakiss "Young, Gifted, and Black"

Released: April 24, 2015

Kiss heard all those new Fabolous freestyles and crashed the booth like, "HOL UP!!!!!!!" Jada's rarely been one to structure a song properly, an acceptable fault once you accept that he's reliably dope when it comes to radio freestyles and disses. "Bout to roll up a whole new leaf/I got gold teeth, and they don't chew beef." Who did it better: Kiss, Kane, or Jay?

Jeremih f/ Chance the Rapper, Lido, and the Social Experiment "Planes (Remix)"

Released: April 25, 2015

This version is quirkier than the original, which features that rather unfortunate "dick/foot" line from J. Cole. The high horns at the two-minute mark are the most romantic and subtle brass assist I've ever heard in my life, or at least since Musiq's "Whoknows."

Ta-ku f/ JMSN and Sango "Love Again"

Released: April 25, 2015

Our very own Edwin Ortiz loves JMSN and keeps me immediately informed of all JMSN-related developments. He failed to inform me of JMSN's recent collaboration with Ta-ku and Sango, however. He will be punished. As he awaits sentencing, please enjoy this mournful drumming and gospel piano.
