Brooklyn Night Bazaar, the flea market, music venue, and food court, will be replaced by BMW next month in its 23,000 square-foot warehouse in Williamsburg. Most recently, co-founders and owners Belvy Klein and Aaron Broudo recently announced a series of outdoor shows at Riis Park, intended to be an extension of the Bazaar but as of right now, these shows will go on as they look for a replacement venue. Klein told The Gothamist that the building owner offered BNB to match BMW but it was "close to 8 to 10 times" what they're currently paying.
"You do have to wonder how it's even possible anymore to operate a venue that doesn't have massive financial backing. Coming from a punk rock/DIY background personally, to see venue after venue basically fall victim to the same developer/price-you-out scenario is really depressing," Klein told The Gothamist. "And as a native New Yorker, it pisses me off even more to see how unrecognizable this city has, and continues to, become."
Klein confirmed to The Gothamist that BMW will now take over the venue on June 1, but it's still unclear how the auto-maker will use the 23,000 square-foot property.
