She's just being Miley. As the latest cover star of Paper, Miley Cyrus graces the cover for the publication's "Use Your Voice" Summer Music Issue which highlights musicians championing great causes. Miley utilizes the opportunity to shed a light on her not-for-profit Happy Hippie Foundation that helps homeless and LGBT youth. The foundation treats at-risk kids with art and animal therapies —two things that Miley self-admitted have been essential in her own well-being.
In the cover story, Miley explains the birth of her Foundation that was inspired in party by the death of Leelah Alcorn, a transgender girl who committed suicide in late 2014 after being forced to undergo what is called "conversion therapy." "We can't keep noticing these kids too late," she told Paper. As a result, Happy Hippie was created as an organization that can raise funds and awareness for homeless and LGBT youth. "I can't drive by in my fucking Porsche and not fucking do something," she says. "I see it all day: people in their Bentleys and their Rolls and their Ubers, driving past these vets who have fought for our country, or these young women who have been raped."
In addition to her new level of accountability, Miley delves into the subject of sexuality. Describing both her sexuality and own gender identification as fluid, she explains "I am literally open to every single thing that is consenting and doesn't involve an animal and everyone is of age. Everything that's legal, I'm down with... I don't relate to being boy or girl, and I don't have to have my partner relate to boy or girl."
On a personal note, the singer details how her next album is currently coming together from recording all hours of the day and night in a studio she built out of her home garage to some new collaborators. "I don't have to have writers, I don't have to have fuckin' producers in there. Mike Will will text me a beat, and I'll go in my studio and work on it by myself." Also expect to see collaborations with The Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne, Gucci Mane and Waylon.
