Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are now part of a pretty elite club that includes artists like Eminem, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, and only handful of others. And it's all thanks to their viral song, "Thrift Shop." Yesterday, the RIAA announced that Macklemore and Lewis' massive single has officially gone Diamond, which means it has sold over 10 million copies since it was released. This means that the duo has done something that Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Drake, Rihanna, and Kanye West have not done in their careers.
While Katy Perry recently reached Diamond status for "Firework" and "Dark Horse," the feat is pretty rare for hip-hop artists. As of today, Eminem is the only other rapper to appear on the list for a song, while Tupac, Notorious B.I.G., and OutKast all have albums that have sold over 10 million units. Macklemore reacted to the news of their Diamond single on Instagram with a post that listed the countless accolades that "Thrift Shop" has built up over the years.
