The legend of David Bowiecontinues to thrive. In a recently unearthed recording shared by the Talkhouse, Bowie is heard fooling around and impersonating the voices of other notable artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Iggy Pop, Tom Waits, Lou Reed, and Neil Young.
The origin story behind the recording is just as interesting. Back in 1985, record producer Mark Saunders, who was studying to be an audio engineer, was working at Westside Studios in London with Bowie. At the end of the studio session for the soundtrack of the movie, Absolute Beginners—one of many films Bowie worked on—the late singer had a little extra fun in the studio and Saunders was quick enough to capture it on tape. Have a listen to the behind-the-scenes vocal session above.
