Run-DMC Will Be Honored With a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2016 Grammys

While we still don't know who's performing at the Grammys this year, it was announced today that legendary hip-hop group Run-DMC will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award during the show. Though the group never won a Grammy, they were the first collective to be nominated for Best R&B Vocal Performance because there was no rap categories yet.

"Each year, The Academy has the distinct privilege of honoring those who have greatly contributed to our industry and cultural heritage, and this year we have a gifted and brilliant group of honorees," President and CEO of the Recording Academy, Neil Portnow, said in a statement. "Their exceptional accomplishments, contributions, and artistry will continue to influence and inspire generations to come." In addition to Run-DMC, Earth Wind & FireJohn CageRuth BrownJefferson AirplaneHerbie HancockCelia Cruz, and Linda Ronstadt will also receive honorary awards during the show. Make sure you tune into the Grammys on Feb. 15 at 8 p.m. (EST) on CBS.
