Yasiin Bey f.k.a. Mos Def was arrested on Thursday at the Cape Town airport in South Africa for using a fraudulent passport, according to the AP. Mayihlome Tshwete, who is the spokesman for the Department of Home Affairs in South Africa, told the AP that when Bey was arrested he was using what he called a "world passport," which South Africa doesn't recognize. Tshwete later tweeted about the arrest and said that Bey and his family now have 14 days to leave South Africa.
In 2014, Bey canceled tour dates in the United States due to legal and immigration issues, but it's unclear if that situation is directly linked to his arrest in South Africa. Bey has yet to comment on the situation, but we'll continue to update the story when more details emerge.
