When Drake dropped "Hotline Bling" last summer, you couldn't escape the catchy single. It became a huge hit for the Toronto rapper and sat on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 10 weeks. At the same time, the record drew some comparisons to the feel-good single "Cha Cha" by Virginia artist D.R.A.M.

While most would say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, D.R.A.M. begged to differ. At the time he explained on Twitter that he felt he was "jacked" for his record but maintained that he was moving on. And that's exactly what he did.

Since then he has been in the studio with Beyoncé and Chance the Rapper, and also has plans to hit the studio with Erykah Badu. D.R.A.M. spoke with Complex News at UMG's Music is Universal space at the JW Marriott hotel in Austin, Texas, during SXSW, about what he called the "'Cha Cha'/'Hotline Bling' shit" and much more. Peep the video above for the interview.
