Here's a Throwback Thursday story that is so crazy it has to be true. On the final night of their 1989 world tour, theRolling Stones had an infamous incident with businessman-turned-politician Donald Trump. The final show was taking place at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City and was sponsored by the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino next door. However, the legendary rock group didn't want to be associated with Trump. So, they made a deal with the real estate mogul that he wouldn’t be involved in any promotional capacity and wouldn’t even be allowed at the show itself. That didn't stop Trump from showing up anyway. “I run to the press room in the next building and what do you think is happening? There’s Donald Trump giving a press conference, in our room!” Michael Cohl, the tour's promoter, recently told Pollstar.
From there, things only got worse when guitarist Keith Richards confronted Trump. According to Cohl, “Keith pulls out his knife and slams it on the table and says, ‘What the hell do I have you for? Do I have to go over there and fire him myself? One of us is leaving the building—either him, or us.’” When Cohl told Trump he needed to leave, Trump's associates began to put on gloves and brass knuckles. In response, Cohl signaled his head of security, who “got 40 of the crew with tire irons and hockey sticks and screwdrivers" to stop Trump. Of course, this wouldn't be the last time Trump had a disagreement with musicians. This story from August of last year surfaced again this week, and we're not at all surprised given the fact that all eyes are on Trump these days.
