Major Lazer made history over the weekend when they performed a free concert in Cuba. The American electronic music group became the first major U.S. act to play in Cuba since the two countries restored diplomacy. According to the group, over 400,000 people showed up for the show. The concert was held at the Tribuna José Martí and was presented by the Musicabana Foundation. During their trip, they also met with Cuban music students and young local kids.
Earlier this year, Major Lazer was tapped as the first notable American act to perform in Cuba. “For as long as I can remember, Cuba has played an influential role on my love of music—Cuba has such a powerful cultural impact all over the world and for me, especially growing up in Florida, it became one of the biggest cultural centers for music to evolve from,” Diplo said in a press release. "Going back to perform in 2016 and to be a part of the culture once again is a huge blessing and I couldn’t be more honored to bring the Major Lazer project there.” Check out footage from the concert above and below.
