Questlove's Father, Lee Andrews, Has Passed Away

Andrews was the lead singer of the band, Lee Andrews and the Hearts.

Some sad news from Questlove today, as he shared the news that his father, Lee Andrews, has passed away at the age of 79. Questlove made the announcement via Instagram along with a heartfelt message about Andrews and the lessons that he taught him about life and music over the years. Andrews himself was a musician and the lead singer of the doo-wop group, Lee Andrews and the Hearts, which saw plenty of success in the '50s and '60s. "For every backstage experience. For every drum lesson. For giving me your tireless work ethic. For our father & son record binging expeditions. For our arguments over the summer I discovered #ItTakesANationOfMillions," Questlove wrote.

As a child, Questlove toured with Andrews and his mother and it's where he first learned to play the drums. "For bringing my mom & my sister into my life. For the years we fell out. For the years we put it back together," he wrote. "But really, for the last 2 conversations we had. I understand why you were so hard on me praying I didn't succumb to a fate not meant for a teenager in West Philly in the mid 80s. I didn't understand it at the time. But I appreciate it now. I hope Donn & I do you proud." You can revisit some of Andrews' best work throughout his career below.
