UPDATED 8/18/16 11:15 a.m. ET: Freddie Gibbs has been released on bail. "We believe this is the first step toward his eventual exoneration and vindication," Gibbs' lawyer, Theodore Simon, said in a statement released to Complex. Simon also maintained his client's complete innocence. "We are pleased and thankful that the Court recognized the same trust and confidence we have in Freddie that justified his release...Yesterday’s charge remains only an allegation, and it does not in any way change the actual facts that Freddie Gibbs is 100% innocent." Freddie Gibbs has officially been charged with sexual assault in connection with an incident in Vienna, Austria last year, according to a report from The Daily Star. He was arrested in June while on tour in France, and has remained in custody since. He was extradited from France to Vienna at the beginning of August. "He is alleged to have administered knock-out drops to a woman and then have abused her sexually while she was in a defenseless state," said a Vienna criminal court spokesperson.

"While Freddy Gibbs was charged with an offense today, it remains only an allegation," said Gibbs' lawyer Theodore Simon in a statement. "It does not in any way change the actual fact that Freddie Gibbs is 100% innocent." Simon went on to explain that Freddie has not yet been given an opportunity to present evidence supporting his side of the story. "As the investigation and process continues, Mr. Gibbs remains hopeful that a thorough, searching, and complete investigation will reveal the actual facts, including the absence of any scientific, physical, or credible evidence implicating him, thereby paving the way for his exoneration and return to his family and one-year old child."

Simon stressed that Gibbs has "consistently remained fully cooperative with law enforcement officials and judicial systems in both France and Austria and will continue to do so." He hopes to be released on bail while he is awaiting trial in Austria, although he will not be allowed to leave the country.
