To no one’s surprise, Lady Gaga’s fifth studio album, Joanne, racked in impressive numbers in its first week.
After its official release on Oct. 21, the project debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 201,000 equivalent album units earned, 170,000 of which were in traditional sales. The numbers not only exceeded forecasters’ expectations, but they also scored Gaga her fourth No. 1 studio album, following 2014’s Cheek to Cheek with Tony Bennett, 2013’s Artpop, and 2011’s Born This Way.
According to Billboard, Joanne was the fourth largest debut of the year, and the second largest debut for a female artist. It trailed Drake’s VIEWS (1.04 million units), Beyoncé’s LEMONADE (653,000 units), and Frank Ocean’s Blonde (276,000 units). But those weren’t the only milestones Gaga reached with Joanne. Billboard reports she has become the first woman with four No. 1 albums in the 2010s, passing Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, who have each earned three so far.
In support of the album, the 30-year-old singer embarked on the U.S. Dive Bar Tour presented by Bud Light.
“I love this dive bar tour so much, because I get to go perform these songs and really look my fans in the eyes when I'm singing to them and really try to have a more natural human experience,” she said in a press release.
