Donald Glover took his musical alter ego Childish Gambino to Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show on Wednesday to perform material from his brand-new albumΒ Awaken, My Love!
Awaken, My Love!Β was released to rave reviewsΒ (though not from everyone), and was one of the top-selling albums in the countryΒ the week it was released. Glover also just released a new virtual reality-enhanced videoΒ for the track "Me and Your Mama."Β
The album features a heavy funk influence, with Glover mentioning the Isley Brothers and Funkadelic as touchstones. That was apparent in theΒ Tonight ShowΒ performance, where a shirtless Glover performed "Redbone."Β
You can see the performance in its funky entirety above.
Fans were thrilled to see Glover take hisΒ Awaken... material to the stage.

Some people speculated that the singer/actor/comedian/rapper's new mustache was there because of his upcoming role as Lando Calrissian.
Glover's singing received props from one of the greatest vocalists out there, Anthony Hamilton:
In addition to Glover's musical output, the multi-talented star just received a Golden Globe nominationΒ for his work onΒ Atlanta, the FX show he created and stars in. The show also received a nomination for Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy. Glover already wonΒ a Critics' Choice Award for his acting on the show.
