A Maryland-based Christian rapper will spend 18 years behind bars for intentionally running over and killing his music producer.

According to ABC affiliate WJLA, Ryan Salandy was given the sentence on Tuesday, about three months after he was found guilty of executing a hit-and-run attack on 25-year-old William McDaniel. The attack occurred in September 2015 after the men had a dispute over CDs. WJLA reports Salandy—aka Ry Money—had paid McDaniel $300 to burn 150 CDs containing his gospel raps; however, some of Salandy's text messages obtained by the news outlet suggests the deal went sour.

On Sept. 25, 2015, Salandy reportedly drove to the Clarksburg neighborhood to confront McDaniel. Witnesses say they heard the men exchange heated words before Salandy drove away in his Saab. Shortly after the verbal argument, he returned speeding toward McDaniel and ran him over at a speed between 37 and 49 miles per hour. The suspect then fled the scene without braking, checking on McDaniel’s injuries, or alerting the police.

The producer died at the scene.

Soon after the collision, Salandy called his mother and explained what had gone down. The mother then notified the police, who showed up at her home to arrest the artist. Law enforcement claimed he was calm and did not question his arrest.
