Dave Chappelle briefly reunited The Fugees, cemented himself in pop culture history with spot-on impressions of Prince and Rick James, and has worked with the likes of Kanye West, Nas, Chance The Rapper, The Roots, and Talib Kweli. It wouldn’t exactly be a stretch to say his musical co-signs rank right behind his comedic and acting chops. Chappelle’s turn as a musical curator got a boost Friday night during Thundercat’s show at New York’s Irving Plaza.

Chappelle was one of a few surprise guests Thundercat brought out during a show that coincided with his new release, Drunk.

“Ladies and gentlemen, onstage tonight is the musical virtuosos. They spent hours and hours of their life practicing their craft, and tonight we get to enjoy the sum total of their work,” Chappelle said, during his brief cameo. “Make some noise for your band.”

Robert Glasper sat in on a set, while attendees said Flying Lotus and Hannibal Buress were also on hand.

Chappelle’s presence kicked off an eventful month for the actor and comedian, as his two Netflix specials will air later this month. On March 21, Netflix will premiere two exclusive stand up performances from Chappelle. The shows are believed to be from Chappelle’s “personal comedy vault,” featuring material from a 2015 performance in Austin, Texas and another set from a March, 2016 date in Hollywood.
