Bobby Shmurda Sentenced Up to 4 Years in Rikers Island Shank Case

Bobby Shmurda has been sentenced after striking a plea deal in his prison contraband case.

Bobby Shmurda has been sentenced in a contraband case involving a homemade knife he received from his girlfriend during a 2015 visit to Rikers Island, prosecutors toldNBC New York Friday. Shmurda was sentenced to one and a third to four years in prison. The sentence will run concurrently with the seven years he was previously given for conspiracy and weapons charges.

"[Ackquille Pollard] has now resolved all of his legal matters and looks forward to getting back with his career," an attorney for Shmurda told reporters Friday. According toTMZ, Shmurda's "friends, family, and lawyers" all urged him to take the deal. As the new sentence will run concurrently, this means Shmurda won't be doing any extra time.

Complex spoke with Bobby Shmurda and Rowdy Rebel back in September 2016, marking their first interview since striking the initial plea deal for seven years. The decision to take that deal, Shmurda said, was inspired by Rowdy. "I did it for Rowdy," he told Complex at the time. "They offered me five and offered Rowdy 12. They said the only way they’ll give him seven is if I took seven too. So, you know, I had to take one for the dawgs."

Shmurda was first arrested in December 2014. As his attorney went over the plea deal that gave him seven years in exchange for a guilty plea in October of last year, Shmurda let the Manhattan courthouse know he had been "forced" to take the sentence. Leslie Pollard, his mother, agreed. "After we made payment, that’s when we were told we don't have a leg to stand on in the courtroom," Pollard said at the time, according toDNA Info.
