"Y'all got 'til April the 7th to get y'all shit together."

It was the last line in Kendrick Lamar’s surprise track "The Heart Part 4"—a line that set social media ablaze with theories and increasing anticipation. What exactly did K-Dot have in store? Some were convinced he would release his fourth studio album on April 7, while others had lower expectations, believing he would come through with a single from the upcoming project. Either way, fans were holding their collective breath on the eve of April 7, waiting for the reveal.

At around 11 p.m. ET, we finally received the big news. It just wasn’t the news many of us were hoping for. Kendrick didn’t drop a full-length project. He didn’t release a single. What he did do, however, is announce that his next album would roll out on April 14.

Of course, the news was bittersweet. Many fans who were hoping for new music expressed their disappointment on social media.

Other fans, however, were just thankful a new Kendrick album was on the way.

Let the countdown to April 14 begin.
