The Toronto emcee formerly known as June Ballentyne is back with a four track EP of turnt up trap.

If you're trying to learn more about Toronto artist Tahir, you'll be hard-pressed to find anything online about him: his Instagram has just three photos posted, and most of the material on his SoundCloud is over a year old. But the lack of context around this artist isn't because he's a newcomer to the scene by any means: Tahir was formerly known as June Ballentyne before making the decision to adopt a new moniker that better reflects his true self. Tahir is, after all, his real name.

As part of his rebirth, Tahir has a new project called Clout Nein which we are premiering here today on Complex. The four-song EP's title is a metaphorical word play on the term "cloud nine"—"Clout" (literal meaning) combined with the German word for "no," thus a direct translation of “no clout”. While Tahir is still building up his own clout under his new/old moniker, it's not likely to take long if his new project is any indication.

The EP  features production from former collaborator Chromatik Beats, Casket:Jones, Jack Rochon (who has worked with Sean Leon) and D.R.O. (who has worked with the Prime boys, Derek Wise and CMDWN). The beats err in the dark end of the spectrum, which works well with Tahir's bassy voice that bounces effortlessly between a haunting monotone and braggadocious turnt up chatty flow. Standout tracks include the trap bangers "Yasuke" and "On Everything" that features Calgary-to-Toronto transplant Bobby Uzoma.

Stream Clout Nein above and stay tuned for more from Tahir.
